Masami Sato

Masami Sato discovered the soothing Hawaiian music and studied under Tatsuo Otsuka, learning the basics of Hawaiian music. Three years later, she studied under Larry Lewis in Hawaii, and has since joined Ota Productions.

She has performed at concerts such as Min-On and Rou-On, and joined the package group Tokyo Flowers, entering the world of show business with a focus on Hawaiian, POP, and Jazz.

In 2000 she won the Hawaiian Music Award World Vocalist Award, Her first album "My Island Maui" was produced by Hawaiian top steal player Henry Allen and released in Hawai‘i. Since then, she has released 7 albums.

In 2007, joined on the Carnegie Hall Hawaii Calls Show.

She has changed her style of Hawaiian music and performed with various genres of musicians. She will continue plans and directs her own annual concert, which is celebrating its 18^th anniversary this year.

She also opened the live restaurant "Aloha Station" in Roppongi as a center for Hawaiian music. Many musicians who support the current Hawaiian music in Japan have come from there.

The band Makana comprises Masami Sato on Ubass and Vocal, Akiko Watanabe on Steel guitar, Kazuko Tanaka on Steel guitar, Kazuko Ishii on Guitar, Ayumi Kato on Guitar and Vocal, Yoshiko Konno on Ubass, and Michiko Makiuchi on Piano, ‘Ukulele and Vocal.
